Roller blinds for plastic windows without drilling: design features and installation procedure

Blinds for plastic windows without drilling are not only an additional decoration of the room, but also protect from the sun. Traditional curtains are being replaced by modern counterparts - blinds. Available in a wide range, they add flavor to any interior while performing the same function.

The desire to change curtains for blinds can come spontaneously, but changing PVC windows for this is too expensive a task. Fortunately, blinds can be installed without drilling, which will allow you to keep the profile intact, because when introducing self-tapping screws, defects may appear - for example, cracks form. A definite plus is that installation is easy to do by yourselfbecause no special tools or special skills are required.

Blinds without drilling

Varieties of construction

The type of blinds directly depends on the way they are attached. Without self-tapping screws, you can install roll, horizontal, vertical and cassette structures. It is not necessary to drill the frame for installation, the work takes little time. But you will have to abandon heavy products in order to avoid deformation or breakdown of the system.

For sashes with a folding mechanism, it is more correct to choose structures with horizontal fastening - they will not dangle when the window is opened.

Horizontal

Horizontal blinds are often called Venetian shutters. They represent a canvas of many horizontal slats (“zha-luz”, “separate plate”) with a width of 1.5 to 2.5 cm. Planks are made of aluminum, plastic or wood. The horizontal design is equally popular for both the apartment and the office because of the ability to choose any colors.

Horizontal

Vertical

Vertical blinds are attached to a special cornice on the armstrong brackets, installing it above the opening (as for simple curtains). To create canvases, a dense fabric with impregnations is used - the lamellas are placed vertically on the rail at the top.

Vertical

Roll

If vertical blinds completely replace curtains and curtains, then roller blinds are often chosen as an addition. They are lightweight, let in enough light, do not require maintenance and can be made in any design. They are made from a smooth fabric that can be treated with water-repellent impregnations. Roller blinds are rolled up using a special mechanism.

Roll

Cassette

They are somewhat reminiscent of roller blinds, but they have a hidden mechanism in the box. They are easy to install even by yourself, without drilling the frames. This mini-system became especially popular a few years ago, and blackout blinds or zebra (day-night) blinds are very popular.

Cassette

Mounting roller blinds

Roller blinds most suitable for fastening without damaging the window. They are made of dense fabrics, therefore, by weight, they are suitable for fastenings. There is no doubt about the quality of roller blinds - they do not let light through, although you can choose transparent and translucent options. Another advantage is the presence of various impregnations - antistatic, antibacterial. To prevent the roller blinds from deforming, there are clips at the edges - guides. The edge of the fabric is on the inside, which creates a neat appearance of the product.

Important! Rolled products for plastic windows have different colors, they can be combined with any interior so that they do not stand out, but create coziness in the room.

You can mount roll copies on the brackets in the grooves, while additionally fixing the fastener piece with adhesive tape. How are they attached blinds - it was described above.

Benefits of installing blinds without drilling

The advantages of blinds, which are mounted without the use of screws, are sufficient, and the main one is the preservation of the integrity of the window opening. For example, owners of apartments for rent are often opposed to drilling a frame.

Cost savings are considered another advantage. There is no need to spend money on calling an installation expert: the simplified mini-systems are easy to install yourself.

Other advantages:

  • the thermal insulation of the window is not disturbed, since inept handling of the drill sometimes leads to damage to the frame and deterioration of the window's functions;
  • structures are quickly removed - this simplifies the process of cleaning products;
  • after dismantling, no holes remain - the original view of the window is preserved;
  • blinds with magnetic clamps do not sag even when the shutters are opened;
  • products and installation are much cheaper than traditional blinds.

Installation benefits

Systems even outperform curtains in some way. The blinds allow you to open the window sill and do not “eat up” the space. They will be a good solution for a small room, where every centimeter of the room is expensive. Almost any type of construction can be supplemented with curtains, if such a desire arises.

Popular blinds and curtains manufacturers

Popular manufacturers of curtains blinds Leroy Merlin offer cascading roman blinds that you can easily and easily install yourself. A wide range is represented by roller blinds from the most expensive to the cheapest, from small to very large.

Inflector is the main one in the operation of the "Injector" system. It is practically invisible, very light and its main advantage is the ability to reduce the heating of the room by 2 times.

Self-assembly of blinds
Self-assembly of blinds is quite simple if you know a few tricks that make this process easier.

This material allows only natural daylight to pass through and blocks the sun's rays. It consists of 4 layers:

  1. Perforation - promotes transparency.
  2. Collector - responsible for strength, located inside the fabric.
  3. The silvery layer reflects solar energy.
  4. Laminated - increases exploitation, has dust and moisture repellent properties.

Blinds for plastic windows without drilling are a very convenient and cost-effective solution that can quickly create a new, more comfortable atmosphere in the room.

Bracket types

Brackets are what blinds are installed on. They are ceiling-mounted, versatile and wall-mounted. They are an L-shaped piece that resembles a hook. Made from metal, plastic or wood. The choice of material depends on the type of blinds: plastic brackets are suitable for light ones, and steel brackets should be used for heavy ones. They are attached to the wall or ceiling with 2 self-tapping screws, which avoids drilling the window frame. Holders are inserted into the grooves, on which the canvases are hung.

Bracket types

The guide bar can be:

  • fixed - provides a rigid installation;
  • inclined - capable of changing the angle of inclination up to 15º;
  • composite - consists of 2 parts, allows you to change the angle of inclination and rotation;
  • tilt-swivel - these are flexible arms that rotate in almost any direction and are adjustable in length.

The metal brackets are reliable and durable and can be tightened when loose. There are only two drawbacks: the high price of the fastening and the poor color range (the metal fittings can be seen on the white frame).

In most cases, these brackets last even longer than blinds, which can tear, burn out in the sun or break.

For which systems is installation without drilling suitable?

A wide variety of sun protection systems can be installed without damaging the windows:

  • horizontal blinds made of metal and plastic;
  • roller blinds Mini - with an open shaft;
  • roller blinds Uni - with box and cassette;
  • Zebra curtains - cassette or free-hanging;
  • pleated curtains.

All of these systems are lightweight and can be mounted on windows of any size. The installation method does not affect the service life of the blinds - they last as long as those fixed with self-tapping screws.

Fixation options

Many people refuse blinds because of the belief in the need to drill a window frame. But there are several ways of installation. The easiest way to fix lightweight structures is double-sided tape. Alternatively, you can choose metal or plastic brackets. Magnetic clips will also come to the rescue, allowing you to securely fix the blinds.

On double-sided tape

Installation problems can arise during the winter as the adhesive tape will not stick to the cold surface. It is recommended to preheat the area with a hairdryer. In addition, at subzero temperatures outside the window, condensation may appear on the windows. As a result, the tape will lose its properties, and the entire structure will collapse. The same can happen in hot weather: in the sun the glue will melt, and the aluminum profile for the curtain will "slide" down the plastic.

On double-sided tape

The disadvantage of fastening to adhesive tape is fragility. It is impossible to say how long such a structure will last on a window: a week, a month, or several years.It all depends on the tape: as soon as its stickiness decreases, the system will fall, which is fraught with breakage of the blinds.

Double-sided tape will not hold heavy and bulky items. An excellent option would be to mount roller or cassette curtains on it, as well as horizontal blinds made of lightweight plastic.

Adhesive tape does not damage the frames, but it can leave sticky marks after dismantling. They can be removed with acetone or a product with alcohol in the composition.

On brackets

Installing blinds on brackets will take more time than simply gluing them onto tape. However, such a structure will last much longer. For fastening, you can use plastic holders and metal brackets. Their principle of operation is the same: first, a piece resembling a hook is put on the sash, and then the blinds are mounted.

On brackets

On plastic holders

Plastic brackets are capable of withstanding lightweight removable products (roller blinds or cassette blinds). The cover structure is attached to the frame. It is enough to put the necessary spare part on the window sash, and then attach the shutter mechanism. The holder is a hook made of durable plastic, which can be easily put on, removed or moved along the sash in one motion. The cost of the system is available to everyone, while the components are not visible.

On plastic holders

There is one drawback - the structure can only be installed on windows with a hinged mechanism.

On brackets made of metal

It is recommended to choose metal brackets for aluminum or wooden blinds, as well as thick roller blinds. Steel-fastened systems are fixed to the window opening (s) or ceiling. The design is strong, allows you to securely fix the canvases. Disadvantages - high cost, color (metal elements stand out on the white frame). Metal brackets are used to install blinds in offices and other non-residential premises.

On brackets made of metal

Most PVC window manufacturers oppose metal brackets. When installed on the frame, the deformation of the sealing rubber bands on the sashes often occurs. Such a defect significantly disrupts the thermal insulation of the room.

On magnetic stripes

Magnetic holders are chosen much less often - they are suitable only for roll models. It will be possible to fix the blinds only on windows with metal slopes.

Installation is simple:

  • attach one part of the tape to the window frame (it is better to use magnets around the entire perimeter);
  • glue the other part on tape or glue to the bar and lower the canvas.

After the blinds are lowered, the magnetic tapes, like suction cups, are tightly connected to each other. When the doors are opened, the canvases remain in one position, covering the glass and not gathering in folds. How strong and durable the structure will be depends on the type of magnets and the severity of the blinds. It is advisable to use neodymium, since they are more powerful than other types and do not demagnetize.

On magnetic stripes

They are more expensive at a price, but it is better to buy a quality product once and not worry about reliability than to regularly change the system with suspended blinds.

Advantages and disadvantages for plastic windows

The use of PVC blinds on windows without drilling has many advantages compared to other installation methods:

  1. Installation can be done by yourself.
  2. Low cost.
  3. They are very compact, which saves window sill space.
  4. Allows to avoid unaesthetic holes and does not violate the structural integrity of the window profile.
  5. The integrity of the window profile helps to maintain the warranty on the windows.
  6. The presence of the magnetic clips of the clamping brackets allows you to keep the blinds in an inclined position when ventilating the window and at the same time to avoid sagging.
  7. The ability to attach to each leaf separately.

Installation of roller blinds without drilling takes several minutes and does not require special knowledge and skills. Perhaps this is the simplest and most profitable option.

install curtains
The curtains can be installed in just a few minutes.

The main disadvantage of this mounting method is that it cannot be used for heavy and massive structures made, for example, of bamboo.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows

Before starting the installation, measure the desired height and make marks with a simple pencil or pen.

On scotch tape

The reliability of the construction when using double-sided tape depends on how good the adhesion is. To improve it, you need to prepare the surface - in this case, the frame.

Step-by-step description of work:

  • thoroughly wash the glass unit (preferably with detergent), paying attention to the frame;
  • do not wipe the flaps with rags, as they leave fibers;
  • dry with a hairdryer, trying to get rid of dust and excess moisture;
  • treat the desired areas with a degreaser - this can be alcohol, acetone or nail polish remover;
  • glue double-sided tape to the structure, removing the lower and then the upper protective layer;
  • attach the cornice to the window frame and press down.

On scotch tape

On sale you can find self-adhesive blinds, on the cornice of which adhesive tape is already applied. Installation takes even less time. All that is required is to remove the protective layer from the tape and apply the product to the frame with your hands.

Mounting on brackets

The installation procedure for blinds depends on the type of construction. First, measure the window opening and determine where the blinds will hang. When fastening with an overlap, the width is left 5 cm.If the canvases are placed inside the frame, then 2 cm should be removed from 2 sides.

It is enough to fix the spring and plastic brackets on top of the frame from 2 sides, fix it until it clicks and close it with a masking plate.

Installation proceeds as follows:

  • attach the curtain rod of the blind to the frame, measuring it in width and height;
  • fix the structure with brackets, putting them on simultaneously on the sash and the canvas, press on the clamps until they enter the groove (this is evidenced by a click);
  • lower the blinds, assessing the reliability of the system, whether the chain or cords move well.

Mounting on brackets

After installation, it is recommended to check several times how tightly the blinds fit to the window, whether the bar does not bend. If the structure does not hold the weight of the canvases poorly, it is better to install several more fasteners, for example, in the middle. The method has only one drawback - it is difficult to mount the blinds alone. It is advisable to work together so that someone is holding the canvases, otherwise there is a risk of attaching them unevenly.

Mounting metal brackets takes more time and attention. They make a markup in advance how the blinds will be placed. After that, the base part with the movable element is hooked onto the frame with the folding mechanism. At the end, the metal brackets are still fixed with screws. All parts, including spare parts, are included.

Photos and diagrams will help you cope with the installation.

Installation of blinds without contact with the window block

Equipping windows with curtains without affecting the window block is an ideal installation method in an effort to preserve the integrity of the binding.

There are several ways how to hang the blinds so that the window block is not used as a supporting base and does not come into direct contact with the blinds. Each of the technologies used does not oblige the use of any one type of accessory, but presupposes the choice of one of several devices that differ structurally.

Important! The metal-plastic profiles used for the manufacture of window and door blocks differ in quality, therefore, when the consumer has complaints about the products (destruction, geometry change), it is important to show the manufacturer the binding without abnormal holes, which can be qualified as the reason for the weakening of the structure and the basis for refusing warranty service ...

Methods for installing blinds without contact with the window unit

We will group the methods of installing blinds according to their location, and describe the installation technologies that can be used in this situation.

Note: the designs of roller shutters and roller blinds (roller blinds) are related, therefore, everything described below is applicable to both accessories that have a similar purpose - shading the room and limiting the view through the window opening.

To the wall above the opening

If the window sashes open outward, or, when opening inward, the width of each of them is less than the depth of the opening (in the open position, the sashes do not protrude into the room beyond the plane of the wall), then such a window can be equipped with blinds by mounting them on the wall above the upper slope - without any impact on the window unit.

In this way, the following types of accessories can be installed on this base:

  • horizontal:
  • vertical;
  • roll (roller shutter);

Installing blinds over the upper slope makes it possible to limit the penetration of sunlight into the room as much as possible, if the device is 10-15 cm wider than the window opening in each direction.

Roller blinds-blinds for window openings with window sills flush with the wall and protruding inward

When using roller blinds or devices with a horizontal arrangement of slats in the blinds, a canvas of the same width as the window sill looks aesthetically pleasing.

The length (height) of the device depends on the geometry of the window sill - if the front edge of the board is flush with the wall, then the curtain rod should be 10 cm lower than it. If the window sill protrudes into the room, then the curtain rod must be laid on it, or blinds with ceiling brackets must be used. fasteners that allow you to position the canvas at the desired distance from the wall.

The design of vertical blinds with a significant width of the lamellas also forces the use of a ceiling installation, since the slats for the ability to rotate around their axis cannot be located close to the wall.

Vertical lamellas

Installation of blinds over the window opening, depending on the design, is reduced to fixing the upper eaves of the device (with horizontal or vertical lamellas) or a roll with strips to the wall above the slope. With the correct choice of the dimensions of the device, the operation for its installation is simple and possible for independent execution.

Options for wall and ceiling placement of curtains with full overlap of the window opening

Measure the length of the upper slope and put a risk on the wall opposite its middle, from which a segment is laid perpendicularly upwards equal to the design height of the curtains above the window opening. A horizontal line is drawn through the upper point of this segment using a bubble level, on which the roll or upper cornice of the blind will be located.

Horizontal markings and holes for mounting brackets

The device is applied to this line, centered relative to the window opening, and marks are drawn on the wall at the drilling sites for attaching the brackets.

With the help of a drill and a drill for concrete, they make mounting holes, insert nylon snorkels into them and fix brackets along them with screws.

Drawing marks on the places where holes are made

Important! Self-tapping screws must be used with a diameter of 4-5 mm and a length of at least 60 mm - the hole should not be limited in depth by the thickness of the plaster layer, therefore, it is better to replace the standard fasteners of a smaller size.

In roller blinds, the axis of the roll with a gear shaft is removed from the brackets. The brackets are mounted on the holes made, and then the axle with the shaft and the curtain is again attached to them.

Installation of a shaft with a curtain and a gear drive on an axle fixed to a bracket

The disadvantage of installing blinds on the wall above the window is the visual concealment of the volume of the room when the curtains are completely closed, since the niche above the window sill becomes covered from view.

To the upper slope

Installation of blinds on the upper plane of the window opening is not technologically different from installation on the wall above the window. The difference in the arrangement lies only in the used brackets (ceiling fasteners) and the dimensions of the blinds - they must fit into the window niche.

You can use the same structures as those installed above the opening - with horizontal or vertical lamellas, as well as roll.

A prerequisite for the possibility of such an installation is outward opening or static, fixed sashes.

The markup is done as follows:

  • along the upper slope, a longitudinal line is drawn parallel to the binding plane and at a distance of 7-10 cm from it (but not closer than 5 cm from the edge of the slope) - so that the handles for opening the flaps do not protrude through the curtain;
  • the upper eaves assembly is applied to the line, centered along the niche, and marks are applied along the holes in the brackets for drilling the mounting holes.

Then the holes are drilled and the brackets are attached to the base.

The distance from the holes to the outer edge of the slope should not be less than 5 cm

When installing horizontal and vertical blinds, the brackets, after marking, are removed from the device and attached to the base separately, and then the cornice fastening to them is restored.

Important! If the lamellas of vertical curtains are removed from the guides for ease of installation of the cornice, then before removal they must be numbered for subsequent installation in the same sequence, otherwise the artistic solution of the canvas as a whole may be violated.

The installation of roller blinds on a slope is performed identically to the installation of lamellas, but when buying, the choice of blinds of this design must be correct - wall-mounted models are not always designed for mounting on the ceiling.

Blinds: on the left - for wall placement only, on the right - universal

The disadvantage of installing blinds or blinds in the window opening is the inevitable gaps between the canvas and the side slopes, which reduces the effectiveness of shading the room.

Care Tips and Tricks

Blinds are good because they do not need special care. It is enough to regularly rinse products with plastic and metal strips with warm water. The self-tapping window-free structures can be easily removed from the window during cleaning and rinsed under the shower. After that, be sure to wipe them with a dry soft cloth, since aluminum products can rust. It is forbidden to wash the cornice with the mechanism under water - moisture will remain in it, which will negatively affect the operation of the system.

Roller blinds may be cleaned with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner, but under no circumstances should they be rubbed with a rag. In case of severe pollution, the structure is dismantled, soaked in warm soapy water for several hours. After rinsing, you can immediately hang the canvases on the cornice to prevent wrinkles and creases. However, for the duration of drying, you should open the windows - without fresh air, especially in the cold season, a musty smell may appear. If curtains with a weighting agent are selected, then it must be immediately returned to its place after washing.

It is not customary to wash fabric blinds treated with moisture-proof impregnations. They are vacuumed or wiped with a soft cloth, and dirt is removed with a stationery eraser. If the stains cannot be cleaned in this way, you can try using a detergent, but without aggressive substances in the composition (these include chlorine, acetone, etc.).

Pleated curtains deserve special attention. They, like other structures, are washed with warm water and detergent. Dried folded, and laid out once every few hours to avoid sticking.It is impossible to iron pleated fabric blinds.

Where are built-in blinds used?

The function of built-in blinds is to darken the room. Such a system for adjusting sunlight is fixed in the inter-glass space of the window.

On a note. The blinds are made of durable aluminum plates. When closed, the structure improves the sound-insulating properties of the window, prevents the penetration of sound from the street. The installation of a solar control system is especially relevant for residents of apartment buildings, whose windows overlook a busy roadway.

Louvered windows inside a double-glazed unit are not a cheap design, but they allow you to get rid of the bulky "drapery" and forget about cleaning. Blinds look stylish and fit into any modern interior.

Scope of application:

  • Apartments, private houses. Blinds look harmoniously in the interior in the style of high-tech, minimalism, loft. Allows you to easily adjust the shade of the room, provide additional sound insulation.
  • Offices, administrative premises. In offices, workspaces are often separated by glass partitions. For privacy and dimming, you can use glass blocks with built-in blinds.
  • Medical institutions, laboratories, premises with high sanitary and hygienic requirements. The blinds are inside the window. They do not accumulate dust and dirt, so they do not need to be washed.
  • Educational institutions. In standard designs, children can break aluminum / plastic strips. The built-in design remains out of reach of even the most agile children.

On a note. Our "Window Factory" offers the installation of windows with the Deceuninck profile. A high-quality, reliable design will last 50 years. And in combination with stylish blinds, it will provide an optimal level of illumination during the day.

Benefits, what to look for

Blinds inside a glass unit have the following advantages:

  • Maintenance free. The dimming system is located in a sealed space. Dust does not get inside the structure. The lamellas are not contaminated and remain clean throughout the entire service life.
  • Do not interfere with ventilation. You can ventilate the room with the blinds closed. In this case, the window, open wide open, will not catch on the "drapery". During ventilation, the structure does not emit noise that occurs due to the influence of the wind.
  • Save space. Curtains take away part of the living space, they look bulky. The curtain, packed in a sealed bag, will solve the problem of saving space.
  • Save energy. If you close the built-in curtain, it will not let in the sunlight. This will allow you to partially use the air conditioner or completely abandon it in the summer.
  • Adjusts the light level. The curtain allows you to darken the room to the required level: to make the illumination less bright, to completely close the window. Installation of blinds is relevant not only in the office, where glare often appears on the computer monitor, but also in the children's room, which requires protection from bright sunlight.
  • Easily adjustable. The position of the slats can be quickly changed.
  • They serve for a long time. If used correctly, the service life of the curtain is 50–80 years. Blinds are free from external mechanical impact.
  • They look modern. Dozens of colors are available to the buyer, from classic white to cream, light green and black.

Note. Built-in curtains are distinguished by sophisticated technology, therefore, they will cost more than external structures.

They cannot be repaired by yourself. In some cases, you will have to change the package.

A glass unit with built-in blinds is made individually for each window. It is not provided for its installation in a ready-made window structure.
