How to clean water-based paint from plastic windows

Not every owner can afford to change all the windows in the house. It will be much cheaper to restore window frames by painting them. Sometimes it is only necessary to remove stale paintwork in unwanted areas.

There are several methods to remove old paint from a window.

Mechanical cleansing

This method is quite suitable for home use: it does not require complex equipment and special skills. To clean the glass you will need:

  • hot water;
  • dishwashing liquid;
  • a piece of clean cloth;
  • a blade or a sharply sharpened thin knife.

You can use a stationery knife, as well as a special scraper of the required size. If nothing is at hand, then a hard metal washcloth will do.

To begin with, the detergent is dissolved in a container of hot water and the old paint on the glass is moistened with this solution. To prevent moisture from entering freshly painted wooden window sills, they must be covered with a film.

Scraping off the paint should be done at an optimal angle of 45 degrees. This will prevent cracks and scratches from forming.

Drops of paint from glass are removed with unsharp movements and in one direction, periodically cleaning the dirt from the blade. If the drop is wet enough, the stain can be removed easily. Do not constantly move the tool from side to side - the glass of the window will easily scratch.

Before removing the primer from the glass, impurities are moistened with hot water. As it dries, the wetting procedure is repeated up to 3 times, gradually removing the primer with a soft cloth. Thermal method

This method is usually used if:

  1. The spots are pretty old.
  2. The contamination of the windows has time to dry out or is difficult to remove.
  3. The surface to be cleaned is large.
  4. The paint layer is quite thick.

The tool used for this method is a conventional construction hair dryer. But in the absence of such a device, you can use an iron.

Naturally, the glass must be cleaned and degreased before applying high temperatures.

The construction hair dryer is brought at a slight angle to the surface of the spot and wait until bubbles form. After that, the peeling paint from the windows is carefully removed with a spatula.

  • solution based on ammonia;
  • soda-based solution;
  • a mixture of chalk, lime and caustic soda.

Ammonia

We moisten a piece of cloth with a solution of ammonia, and then wipe the dirt. As soon as the marks completely disappear, dry the place with a regular napkin. After the ammonia, the glass will shine like new.

We mix soda with water, until a pasty substance is obtained. Apply it to the damaged area and leave it on for a few minutes. We wash off the excess paste, and wipe the stain with a knife blade or scraper.

Lime, chalk and caustic soda

To prepare the solution, we take:

  • 30 grams of lime;
  • 10 grams of chalk;
  • 10 grams of caustic soda.

Mix lime and chalk. We dilute them with water until the consistency resembles liquid sour cream. We knead the soda.

We process the required area with the resulting substance and give it a few hours to dissolve the paint. We wipe off the excess with a damp cloth, and remove the remaining paint with a clerical knife.

Prevention of contamination of glass and windows

In order not to have to wash the paint after painting, it is worth taking some measures to prevent it from falling on the window. Glass, frames and windowsill must be covered with polyethylene or sealed with tape.

Sometimes accidental hits cannot be avoided. Therefore, it is recommended to rub the glass and frame with laundry soap before painting. After finishing work, stains of fresh paint will be easily washed off from the soapy surface.

Precautions

To facilitate repair work, observe the following precautions:

  1. Clean windows with soapy water before painting.The paint, if it gets on the surface of the window, will not stick to the window and will be removed from the surface without problems.
  2. When working with chemistry, try to ventilate the room so that harmful vapors do not enter the body along with the air.
  3. If possible, clean the glass horizontally. This will reduce the risk of breaking it.
